ABOUT US
It was at the beginning of 2016, that Diogo, with nearly two decades dedicated to winemaking, found the vineyard that he had been carefully searching for.
His enthusiasm with the discovery was enough to persuade Gonçalo to join him. The two brothers, with their wives Carmo and Maiko, embraced the project of the old vineyard of Biombo, under the company Douro Blossom.
Douro Blossom not only stands for the picturesque almond and cherry blossom, that brightens the already stunning Douro landscape, but also for all that has and will bloom from the devotion and respect of the quartet for their terroir.
Made up of vines with more than 70 years – the oldest being more than 140 years - Biombo is home to 35 different grape varieties, which are separated by unaltered partitions of schist, that bear witness to the hard work and dedication of those who helped build the historic Douro terraces.
Partition, in its turn, is synonym of “biombo”, a Portuguese word of Japanese origin – byōbu. In the XVI century it was used to depicted the arrival of the Portuguese in Kyushu, Japan.
Facing north and overlooking Douro River, between its tributaries Torto and Távora, planted at 500m above sea level, Biombo’s vineyard produces, through environmentally sustainable practices, unique, naturally fresh and elegant wines.
